The Cereus peruvianus cactus bloomed last night. The picture was taken late after a short rain shower. The bloom only lasts one night. If I was really on the ball, I would have brought the cactus inside and set the camera to interval timed shots during the night to record the bloom opening and then closing.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter everyone! Here is a picture of an Easter lily I took in the past.

My nephews and I colored eggs yesterday for an Easter egg hunt. Here is my attempt to show them how to make a multiple colored egg. It looks like a rainbow.

This blue one my sister colored which reminds me of the moon surface for some reason.

Louisville Hyacinths

This has got to be one of my favorite times of year for photography. The flowers are beginning to emerge from their winter slumber and bloom in an array of colors. These flowers are hyacinths and were photographed in a neighborhood in eastern Louisville, Kentucky.

Night Flower of Cereus Cactus

You have to get up late at night to photograph this cactus. It is probably a Cereus peruvianus. The bloom only lasts one night and it will probably be fully open by 5 AM. It will then close up when the sun is rising and the spent bloom will fall off several days later.

I did not have the best of lighting so I ended up using the flash which brings out the whites on this flower too much.

Close ups of the inside of the flower.

All pictures taken in Louisville, Kentucky.

Locust Tree Flower

Here is a white or ivory flower cluster of the locust tree. There were only two flower clusters left on this tree when it caught me attention. The tree is located in Clark County, Indiana right across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky.

If I remember, this tree is a quick grower but the limbs break easily in strong winds.

White Bells Flower & White Violet

Here are a number of pictures of Lilies of the Valley. They photograph quite nicely. These were found outside of Louisville, Kentucky. The last picture is of a white wild violet. I only found one so maybe it is a recessive gene.
